SNAP holds annual forum for Benguet host communities
Renewable energy provider SN Aboitiz Power-Benguet (SNAP-Benguet) convened its annual host communities’ forum in Itogon, Benguet on November 26, 2024. This year’s event centered around the theme, “Redefining Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the Age of Sustainable Development.”
The forum gathered around 70 participants, including representatives from local government units and indigenous people’s organizations (IPOs) in Benguet.
This year’s HCF featured talks from a number of speakers. Mr. June O. Bayeng, Agricultural Technologist from the Office of Agriculture, shared insights on their CSR initiative, the Integrated Diversified Farming System. Meanwhile, Aboitiz Equity Ventures Chief Reputation and Sustainability Officer Ana Margarita Hontiveros delivered a presentation emphasizing the importance of purpose beyond profit, anchored on the Aboitiz Group’s key pillars of people, jobs, and climate action.
Building on these ideas, the discussion turned to a broader perspective on sustainability and collaboration. In his keynote speech, SNAP Group President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joseph Yu emphasized the urgent need for sustainable development, and to move forward with a CSR framework based on partnership and sustainability.
“As we navigate the landscape of sustainable development, we will continue to work together to redefine CSR in this context – not as charity, not as philanthropy, but as the cornerstone of responsible business. By doing so, we can create lasting impact and progress that will benefit present and future generations,” Yu said.
Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas delivered his appreciation to the company through Mr. Mario Baucas, Benguet PLGU Executive Assistant. In his message, the governor said, “SNAP’s various projects have been instrumental in providing assistance to the province and IP’s way of life,” evidenced by SNAP’s top taxpayer award in the province of Benguet this year.
The host communities’ forum is an annual event held by SNAP to update its community-based stakeholders on the company’s operations and initiatives, and facilitate their participation in improving its CSR program. (PR)
