PLTCol Molitas wants to empower more women police in the country

BAGUIO CITY – The Philippine National Police, with the support from the Hanns Siedel Foundation – Philippine Office conducted a two (2) days seminar at a Women in Law Enforcement Conference for the theme: “Resilient Leadership in the New Normal,” composed of 30 participants from the Cordillera region of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, and Baguio City Police Office. Held at City Light Hotel from October 12 to 14, 2022.

PLTCol. Kimberly E. Molitas – Assistant Chief, PNP Liaison Office for the Office of the President, Office of the Chief Philippine National Police was the Guest of Honor and Speaker of the said conference.

In an interview to PLTCol Molitas, “I do this because I want to empower more women police in the country and especially here that  I am proud and inspire because I’m from Cordillera, it was really my commitment to make sure I’ll do it here in Cordillera, when I went around, when I was a regional chief HPG before, I realize that there is a need to help empower women here in the Cordillera because culture here were very shy, its not something we can blame that about kasi nga parang ito na ang kinalakihan namin  and I’m just lucky that in my years in the PNP was able to develop why am and picking more vocal and the so I the spokeperson for the PNP for a while, I realized that there is a need to bring that a leadership talked for this police women, so that we will be empowered like I am, sayang kasi kung ako lang yun, dapat lahat kami, because if I was able to do it, why can’t they, they are as equally talented, as intelligent, as brilliant as anyone else in the country and they deserve that training so that they will be able to develop to become more responsible better officers for our region.”

“I wanted to teach them something that outside of the organization to empower them as well and wider their knowledge so, when we started talking to them and started telling them the value of opening themselves be more vocal and a building their communications, they started asking questions and they started interact so, it also means that our goal is I think after the two days has been met na our last speakers was the officers in charge in the Deputy Director General so, he was also from outside of the PNP and he started talking about the resilience and community relations and they started asking questions so, nagkaroon ng inter action, we were able to see na if you really give the proper tools the proper information they become they will bloom like flowers and they become more versatile, they become more open minded, they taught more and they able to express themselves better so that one of the discussion I told them is that, if we want to have support from others entities like from the media, stakeholders, academe, whoever who wants to support the PNP they have to be able to talked to them and express that we have to support, we need this from you because they are many individuals, organization, business people, academe, teachers who want to help the PNP or support the PNP but because they are not properly inform because I police does not want to talk to them, they don’t know how to be able to support the PNP so, I think it’s very good that these women not so many of them, these 30 women who we had shared two days and trained with for two days, now better understand the importance building communication, building relations with this stakeholders by simply be able to communicate them effectively so, yun talaga ang gusto natin mangyari sa kanila,”

“Some problems of our Police Women were discussed in the open forum are challenges to their offices, they express issues on multi-tasking given to them, offices are not conducive for them of the workplace, there are also outside influences being experienced by our organization, there is lack of support, lack of training, impact this was mention,  they are many factors that contribute to the non-fulfillment of their tasks as a police officer and we were able to explore things on the solutions that may be able to look at, to address this issues.”

“I wanted to bring this to the higher court and to discuss it with our Chief PNP, I’m very sure that he will take notice of this things and I hope that it will be addressed very soon by the leadership, he loves Cordillera so much that’s wanting for sure,”

“These issues already tackled naman na talaga,  napag usapan na, nasabi niya na tutulungan natin ang local police so, this conference would conform that issue at least nakita natin na meron talagang issues and we acknowledge those challenges

Kasi mahirap din talaga its not something that we can solve overnight, but at least we can look at this issue at least little by little can move forward,” “One thing, we are happy to know that here in the Cordillera has no harassment issues, we do not have that problem, were very glad that our women are comfortable working environment, working with our counterpart, kaya natutuwa tayo wala tayong problemang ganun, Molitas concluded. # Mario Oclaman //FNS
