One person died in an erosion incident in Kiangan, Ifugao

Police officers of Kiangan MPS responded to a soil erosion incident that transpired in Kiangan, Ifugao on the afternoon of January 28, 2023.

According to Kiangan MPS, together with the personnel of Kiangan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (MDRRMO), they responded to a phone call from a concerned citizen informing them about the two individuals trapped inside a hole caused by a soil erosion that occurred in Sitio Imbintok, Brgy. Nagacadan, Kiangan, Ifugao.

The victims were identified as Mr. Thomas Balanian, 50, and Mr. Joshua Belingon, 26.

Accordingly, the two were inside the hole and were tying the steel bar of the post when the soil suddenly eroded causing Mr. Balanian and Mr. Belingon to be trapped inside the hole.

The victims were immediately rushed to the Kiangan Rural Health Unit but Mr. Balanian was pronounced dead due to asphyxia while Mr. Belingon, who sustained minor abrasions on his chest and right arm, was later allowed to go home. (PROCOR-PIO / File photos)
