Omicron still dominant Covid variant in city

Omicron remains to be the dominant Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) variant of concern in the Summer Capital causing 70 percent of infections according to a local health official.

This was revealed by City Health Services Office (CHSO) deputy head Dr. Celia Flor Brillantes during the regular management committee meeting of city officials, Nov. 22, led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong at City Hall.

She said the Delta variant causes 17 percent of Covid-19 infections; Alpha, nine percent; and Beta variant infecting four percent of the local population, so far.

Meanwhile, Brillantes said that as of Nov. 21, 2022, the city has a current anti-Covid vaccine supply totalling 24,229 jabs but warned that most of these will be expiring soon.

Of the total, the city has 11,650 Pfizer vaccines for five to 11 years old and 2,700 for 12 years old and above.  Both batches will expire at the end of the month, she disclosed.

The city’s supply of Sinovac vaccines amounting to 9,879 jabs, Brillantes added, will be expiring on Sept. 23, next year. – Gaby B. Keith
