The Department of Science and Technology–Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) reported that no aftershocks are expected following the Magnitude 4.4 earthquake that struck in some parts of Northern Luzon early Thursday morning.

According to the agency’s Earthquake Information bulletin, the tremor was recorded at a shallow depth and was tectonic in origin, indicating movement along local fault systems. Despite being felt in nearby towns and provinces, PHIVOLCS confirmed that the earthquake posed no significant threat and that no damage had been reported as of press time.

Authorities reminded residents to remain calm and to continue observing standard safety measures during and after ground shaking. DOST-PHIVOLCS also assured the public that it will closely monitor the area for any related seismic activity and will immediately issue updates should there be any changes in its assessment. #
