More urban farmers urged to get DA accreditation; urban farmers month ongoing

The City Veterinary and Agriculture Office (CVAO) revealed that as of present,  a total of 2,929 urban farmers  and 32 urban farmer organizations in the Summer Capital have been accredited in the Department of Agriculture’s (DA)  Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).

CVAO agriculturist I Vincent Aaron Chacapna said the DA is targeting 5,000 urban farmers  in the city to be registered at RBSA to facilitate access to any agriculture-related assistance program of the government.

The RSBSA is an electronic compilation of basic information of farmers, farm workers, fishers, and other target agriculture-related beneficiaries of the DA. Their data are encoded in the farmers and fishery registry system managed by the DA-Central Office.

Chacapna said his office conducts regular visits to the barangays and assists urban farmer organizations  in registering with the Department of Labor and Employment, Securities and Exchange Commission, or Cooperative Development Authority before accreditation in the RSBSA.

The city is currently celebrating  Urban Farmers and Fisherfolks  Month 2022 this May  by virtue of city ordinance no. 35, series of 2018 authored by returning councilor Leandro Yangot, Jr. that aims to boost the city’s agricultural industry and economy as a whole.
