MAYOR HOLDS INSPECTION OF PARKS, INFRA PROJECTS WITH SCOUT OFFICIALS

Mayor Benjamin Magalong led a series of inspection visits, parks and infrastructure projects to assess the condition of the public spaces and ongoing projects in relation to the city’s environmental management, infrastructure and urban development thrusts.
On Oct. 13, the mayor inspected ongoing repair works at Baguio City Hall, where he pointed out defects and deficiencies.
The City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) informed the mayor that payment for the project had been withheld pending completion of the project. The CBAO had already met with the contractor to fast-track the unfinished job.
The mayor was later accompanied by Scout Official For-a-Day (SOFAD) Mayor Angela Sophea Lacson and personnel from the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), City Engineering Office (CEO), City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO), and the City Buildings and Architecture Office (CBAO) along with their respective Scouts Official for a Day (SOFAD) counterparts in inspecting the Ibaloi Park, Burnham Park Biking Area, Sunshine Park, Lakandula Street, Arboretum and Wright Park.
While pointing out areas that need improvement, the mayor emphasized the importance of maintaining the area as a model for environmental preservation and a recreational space for both residents and visitors.
“Our parks reflect our commitment to a cleaner, greener and more livable Baguio,” he said emphasizing the city’s continued efforts to enhance green spaces and strengthen waste management systems.
The mayor said the scouts’ participation provided an opportunity for them to gain firsthand experience in local governance and urban development and through their involvement, the city hopes to inspire youth engagement in public service and environmental advocacy.
The following day, the mayor checked the condition of the Irisan Eco-Park which is undergoing its second phase of development.
After being informed that the project is nearing completion, the mayor instructed the city’s project monitoring team to inspect the finished segments and ascertain the quality of the work done.
Holding inspections of the city’s projects and sites had been part of the mayor’s activities for the past years.
This aimed to identify infrastructure and environmental management concerns while evaluating ways to further improve functionality and sustainability of the areas and projects inspected.
The mayor reaffirmed that these regular inspection activities form part of the city’s “broader initiative to support ecological balance and responsible urban growth, ensuring that the city remains both environmentally sound and community centered.” – Aileen P.
