Mayor: Audit of Kennon Road shed project in order

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said a third party audit of the rock shed project at Millsite Camp 4, Camp 6, Kennon Road in Tuba, Benguet is in order to determine the true status of the project.

The mayor who is the chairman of the Baguio-La Trinidad-Itogon-Sablan-Tuba-Tublay Development Authority (BLISTTDA) said projects of this caliber must have been provided enough funding and “class A” treatment in terms of quality.

The mayor inspected the newly built structure which was in a precarious condition after portions of its foothold caved in due to soil scouring at the height of typhoon “Emong” last July 26, 2025.

He said there is also a need to determine whether apart from natural causes, human factors like design flaws and construction errors also played a part in the incident.

The mayor said despite what happened, the structure was able to serve its purpose having protected the stretch from rock falls.

The mayor commended the Dept. of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for its fast action on the incident.

The department was able to deploy its manpower and heavy equipment to the scene and managed the incident at once.

The mayor said clearing operations will continue and the road will remain closed until its structural stability has been fully established. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
