JHMC Hosts an Open House, Highlights Camp John Hay’s Past
Camp John Hay, Baguio City- In an effort to showcase the newly refurbished Historical Core, John Hay Management Corporation (JHMC) hosted an open house on Wednesday, September 07, 2022, at the Bell House Veranda.
This is the first public event organized by JHMC following the spate of lockdowns brought on by the pandemic. As a treat, the activity permitted free entrance to the Historical Core from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
The Open House ensued at the beginning of the month-long commemoration of the 113th Baguio Charter Day, making it the ideal time to herald the reconstruction and restoration work carried out in the Historical Core. Among the rehabilitated areas within the Historical Core are Liberty Park, epitaphs in the Cemetery of Negativism, Secret Garden, and the Amphitheater. Newly built comfort rooms for Persons with Disabilities were also installed to cater to tourists with special needs.
The highlight of the event is the audio-video presentation (AVP) of Camp John Hay’s early history which reawakened its rich heritage. Also, the cultural presentation by the Saeng Ya Kasay Cultural Ensemble of the University of the Cordilleras performing the various ethnic dances of the different provinces in the Cordillera delighted the crowd.
From the Vice President and COO Jane Tabalingcos’ own words, “Camp John Hay is always known as a famous tourist destination because of its weather. But the aesthetic of the place is more than the pine trees and cool breeze that we see and feel, that’s why we want to make sure that people remember the history behind it.”
JHMC management hopes that the event will kick off people’s curiosity about Camp John Hay’s history.
The event was attended by the JHMC Board of Directors, local tourists, and Camp John Hay locators and employees. END
