GSO ensures upkeep of waste station, garbage collection amid typhoons

City General Services Officer Eugene Buyucan said his office had seen to the upkeep of the waste transfer station and unhampered waste collection even during the onslaught of howlers “Crising” and “Emong”.

Debunking claims that they were remiss in maintaining the transfer station in Dontogan barangay and causing disturbance in neighboring Tuba barangay, Buyucan said that they made sure no waste got stuck in the facility for more than a day the entire time.

“Garbage was hauled out within 24 hours even when the typhoon was causing heavy downpour and strong wind just to avoid stockpiling and causing inconvenience,” he said.

“Regular cleaning and application of deodorizer were also done religiously to prevent foul smell,” he said.

“We have been on our toes to see to the upkeep of our transfer facility. I hope people will not be too quick to accuse or blame us for something we are working so hard to avoid,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said they also made sure that no disruption in garbage collection will happen despite the typhoons.

Our garbage collectors did their best to keep to the regular schedule to ensure that no barangays were left unserved and no garbage piles were left uncollected.

“They worked under the rain exposed to the elements because they are aware of the consequences of leaving garbage unattended and scattered,” Buyucan said. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
