Establishment of Barangay PWD desks, committees pushed

The city council adopted resolution no. 678, series of 2023, urging all barangays in the Summer Capital to implement ordinance no. 47, series of 2017, that mandates them to establish and maintain Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) desks and committees in their respective jurisdictions.

The directive’s purpose is for the improvement of the total well-being of PWDs and their integration to mainstream society.

“At present, there are still barangays that do not have their desks and committees that are suppose to help them and the city as a whole in data gathering as legislative reference for the improvement and proper delivery of basic services, programs and benefits to all PWDs in the city of Baguio particularly during emergencies and calamities,” the resolution stated.

It was based on a similar proposal of Senior Citizens Official For-A-Day councilor Estella Florendo adopted during the SCOFAD council session on Oct. 9, this year.

Copies of the approved measure are to be furnished to all the city’s barangays. – Gaby B. Keith
