La Trinidad, Benguet –  The opening of Strawberry Lane began with a ribbon cutting led by Municipal Mayor Romeo K. Salda, along with Municipal Councilors, Rev. Paul Tabun, Municipal Agriculturist Nida D. Organo, and also with Mr. & Ms. La Trinidad 2024 candidates held at the Municipal Park on March 4, 2024.

Starting from March 4 to March 31, Strawberry Lane has opened and more than 20 stalls have been set up to display their products to give pleasure to visitors and neighboring provinces of Cordillera, taste the delicious products made from strawberries to be proud of the LGU- led  Livelihood Associations.

This agro-fair features strawberries, strawberry by-products, and strawberry-themed goods and items in celebration of the 2024 Strawberry Festival.

Meanwhile, the Commercial Trade Fair has also begun to open at the Public Market Grounds led by NBH Events Organizing Services, it will end in April 2024

In an interview with Mayor Salda, “Before we have Strawberry Festival, we have the municipal fiesta during the time of Former Mayor Edna Tabanda Pang “Aspulan” naman ang ginamit, but we would like to thank Sangguniang Bayan for drafting the ordinance year 2011 for the celebration Strawberry Festival so, we are now celebrating Strawberry Festival aside from celebrating St. Patron of San Jose which has been celebrating every March 18 so, March 18 ang dapat na celebration natin but it was Monday so, the executive committee had decided that we have going to celebrate on March 15 which is the main program, March 16 will be the float and dancing parade and March 17 will be the Strawberry Cake Fest, we are not going to bake a giant strawberry cake but we will having the strawberry cupcakes,”

“We would like to thank our 1,120 strawberry farmers for sustaining their production and helping us promote strawberries in the municipality of La Trinidad with an area of 39 hectares and we would like to thank the BSU for maintaining the strawberry farm as this is a big production aside from the outskirt from different barangays of have strawberry production,” Mayor Salda concluded.

Under the municipal ordinance, the giant strawberry cake is made every two years so, next year 2025 we will be baking a bigger Twin Giant Strawberry Cake made from Snow-white and Red strawberries that will be put in the Municipal gym. ### Photo by: Mario Oclaman //FNS
