CLFI STRENGTHENS REINTEGRATION THROUGH EDUCATION AND FINANCIAL LITERACY AT WOMEN’S CORRECTIONAL

Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. (CLFI) reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive education and financial empowerment by returning to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.

The visit marked the rollout of the #LahatKasama National Financial Literacy Caravan for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and the launch of the first Cebuana-Aralan Mini Library resource designed to support lifelong learning even behind bars.
Through an interactive financial literacy session, CLFI taught practical money management skills—including budgeting, saving, and goal setting—to empower women inmates with tools for self-sufficiency as they prepare for reintegration into society.
These lessons complement CIW’s Alternative Learning System (ALS) and help bridge the gap between incarceration and reintegration.
CLFI also distributed learning kits, books, and school supplies to support PDL learners for the new school year.
Acting Superintendent Dr. Marjorie Ann P. Sanidad welcomed the donations, describing them as instrumental to the continued success of ALS students within the facility.
Beyond education, CLFI also supported PDL livelihood activities by donating sewing machines and fabrics—offering the women both productive engagement and the means to earn a small income while in custody.
CLFI Executive Director Jonathan Batangan encouraged the women to share their stories of resilience through a proposed CIW edition of the “Search for the Happiest Pinoy,” highlighting that hope and joy can exist even in difficult circumstances. ###
