City urges repair of USAFIP-NL building

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 641, series of 2023, requesting the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) to allow the repair of the United States Armed Forces in the Philippines-Northern Luzon (USAFIP-NL), Baguio-Benguet Chapter, building structure at the Veterans Compound, Camp Henry T. Allen barangay, here.

The building is also being used/occupied by the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO)-Baguio that administers veterans’ benefits, implement programs and projects to enhance their general welfare and institute measures to memorialize their patriotism and heroism.

“The building that the PVAO occupies needs to be repaired to restore the facility which may be considered a historical site because it was built quite some time ago as it was used by the veterans,” the approved measure stated.

The Mayor also signed resolution no. 96, series of 2023, requesting the Baguio city legal office (CLO) to conduct a study with respect to the prior rights of claimants within Proclamation No. 2405, series of 1985, (Reserving for Military Purposes Certain Parcels of Land of the Public Domain situated in Fort Gregorio Del Pilar, Baguio City).

The approved measure also asks the CLO to submit to the local legislature its legal opinion on the matter. – Gaby B. Keith
