City oksy request of wood rock, flowers group to sell at Igorot Park

Mayor Benjamin Magalong ratified city council resolution no. 430, series of 2020, approving the request of Wood Rock and Flowers Group, Inc. to sell their products like plants, furniture, rabbits and souvenirs within the period November 15 to December 30, 2022 at Igorot Park, Baguio City, subject to conditions.
The local legislature considered the letter dated August 21, 2022 of the group’s president, Larry Hacoco, following up on their July 28, 2022 letter regarding the mentioned request to cope up with their losses during the past two years of the Coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.
City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) head Atty. Rhenan Diwas, in his 4th indorsement dated Sept. 9, 2022, submitted his comments and/or recommendations on the matter.
These include: The association and/or organization must submit a design proposal with a theme or purpose of the activity to the CEPMO for approval; they must also comply with the necessary permit and/or payment of fees before conducting any activity within city parks; products must not be sold by business concessionaires within the city park and should be environment friendly; priority should be given to government-led or sponsored activities for the use of area within city parks.
The august body’s committee on market, trade and commerce and agriculture, in its 5th indorsement dated Sept. 14, 2022, recommended approval of the request including the CEPMO recommendation as conditions.
The approved measure also directs the CEPMO to designate the specific dates within the period as requested not exceeding 30 days.
During deliberation, the body agreed to include as additional conditions the need for the association/organization to apply for accreditation with the City Government of Baguio, and that the CEPMO and City Permits and Licensing Division-City Mayor’s Office to monitor the activity to ensure that products being sold must not be those sold by business concessionaires within the city park. – Gaby B.
