City honors Lady Centenarian

Mayor Benjamin Magalong signed city council resolution no. 442, series of 2022, honoring Leonora Dulay Aromin as a Centenarian of the Summer Capital.

The measure states that Aromin, the fifth among a brood of ten, was born on March 14, 1920 in Aringay, La Union and is now 102 years old.  She was able to finish her elementary education but did not continue her studies due to financial constraints.

She met Zosimo Olipas Aromin at the Baguio City Skating Rink when she was 19 years old whom she married on January 16, 1939. They were not blessed with any biological children but legally adopted Angelita Aromin Mendoza, the child of their neighbor who was born on April 10, 1953.

The couple established a wood furniture business but closed it when Zosimo suddenly fell ill and passed away in 2016 due to Parkinson’s Disease. Since Leonora had no other source of income then, she started to do odd jobs to support her daughter financially.

“As a solo parent, she is mindful of her health so she could take care of her daughter. Her secrets to a longer life are eating healthy food, diligently taking her vitamins, drinking eight glasses of water daily, and obediently following  advice on health and longevity,” the resolution states.

It adds that Leonora, now a grandmother of two and great-grandmother of two, is receiving a lot of love and care from her family.

The measure states that she is awarded all the privileges in accordance with ordinance no. 45, series of 2013, as amended by ordinance no. 53, series of 2016, and further amended by ordinance no. 84, series of 2019, as amended by ordinance no. 10, series of 2022. – Gaby B. Keith
