City holds circular economy, open government workshop

BAGUIO CITY – The City Government through the City Planning, Development and Sustainability Office (CDSO) conducted a Circular Economy and Open Government Partnership Curriculum Workshop for Private Schools at the Girls Scouts of the Philippines (Ating Tahanan), South Drive, June 13, to integrate Urban Carrying Capacity & Circular Economy into the local basic education curriculum.
CPDSO head Arch. Donna Tabangin said the activity also aims to strengthen civic responsibility and transparency in the city’s schools and co-create teaching materials that connect sustainability with local culture.
A circular economy is a concept where wastes are reduced and transformed into resources while an open government partnership is a global multi-stakeholder initiative that aims to make governments more open, transparent, accountable, and responsive to citizens.
The activity was participated by private school educators and administrators, city planning experts, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) specialists, local culture advocates, and youth development champions.
“We are empowering our educators with tools to teach the next generation about sustainable living, civic engagement, and environmental stewardship right here in Baguio,” she said.
The workshop is part of the city’s European Union-Green Economic Partnership with the Philippines (EU-GEPP) Green LGUs Project and Open Government Partnership Commitment No. 3, “because education is where real change begins,” Tabangin explained.
CPDSO economist III Micaela Rimando said Commitment No. 3 is the development of course modules on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), carrying capacity and livability for all education levels in the Summer Capital. – Gaby B. Keith
