Cherheal Lomedio’s golden Wushu journey

Cherheal Lomedio’s golden Wushu journey

The Summer Capital’s Cherheal Starr Ciriaco Lomedio began training for Wushu back in Grade 7 ever since her cousin and father first sparked her interest in the sport.

For the fifteen-year-old, there’s no easy or hard part in her training but only the will to push through.

Among Cherheal’s favorite moments in training are the partner plays, where she gets to hone her skills and apply what she has learned.

Although competing in Batang Pinoy 2024 was both nerve-wracking and exciting for her, the experience was unforgettable since representing Baguio filled her with pride and stepping into the ring came with one clear mission: to defeat fear first, before any opponent.

Proving doubters wrong was part of the fight, too, especially to those who believe Wushu wasn’t for girls as her gold medal finish was the answer.

One of the most memorable parts of the competition was meeting athletes from different places and forming new friendships, she disclosed.

Cherheal said that behind her win are people who supported her including coaches, teammates, friends, and most importantly, her family.

Despite all the hurdles, it’s their unwavering belief in her that continues to drive her forward, she stressed.

To other aspiring athletes, Cherheal advises them to work hard, stay disciplined and never fear failure.

They should also set goals, trust the process and surround themselves with people who believe in them because with heart and hard work, victory will follow, she added.

When asked about her future plans, Cherheal’s focus is now fixed on Batang Pinoy 2025, with the aim of once again stepping onto the podium and making her supporters proud.- Heidi V. Alonzo – Baguio PIO intern / Gaby Keith
