Boosting the spirit of sportsmanship and excellence, Benguet athletes competing in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) in Luna, Apayao, are in for a windfall of cash rewards thanks to the magnanimous gesture of Congressman Eric Go Yap.

Adding an extra layer of motivation to the already fierce competition, Cong. Yap announced that he would be providing additional cash incentives to athletes from Benguet who clinch top honors in the CARAA games.

The incentives, which range from P1,500 for gold, P1,250 for silver, and P1,000 for bronze, will now be doubled by Yap, effectively doubling the rewards for outstanding performances.

This announcement comes as a welcome surprise to the athletes who have been training tirelessly for their chance to shine on the regional stage.

With the added financial support, they have an even greater incentive to push themselves to their limits and bring home glory for Benguet.

“We know na hindi ganun kalaki yung pondo ng sports sa Benguet. Pero kami ni Gov. Melchor Diclas, nagtutulungan para madagdagan kung ano man yung kulang,” Yap told more than 700 athletes, coaches, and chaperons.

Benguet, for the longest time, is a perennial runner–up to Baguio in the annual CARAA meeting and is raring to bounce back after their lack of luster performance in the past regional sports conclave.

Intending to retake the number two spot in the overall rankings, Yap also pledged to double his cash incentives to the athletes if Benguet manages to secure a second-place finish in the overall standings of the CARAA.

“Kapag tayo ay second place sa CARAA, dodoblehin ko yung P1,500 na makukuha ng gold, P3,000 na, yung makakakuha ng silver, imbes na P1250, P2500 at yung bronze imbes na P1,000, P2,000 na. Kaya dapat, magtulong tulong tayo para maging number two tayo,” Yap added.

This promise serves as both a challenge and a rallying cry for the athletes to give their all in every event, knowing that their hard work could pay off in more ways than one.

As CARAA unfolds in Luna, Apayao, all eyes will be on the athletes from Benguet as they strive to make their mark on the regional stage, and with the added incentive of generous cash rewards from Yap, they are poised to deliver performances that will be remembered for years to come. ###
