Baguio one of the Top 3 most improved LGU’s in Environmental Health Services

02 September 2021 – Baguio City is one of the country’s top three most improved local government units in environmental health services.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong said Dept. of Health Cordillera Regional Director Ruby Constantino announced the recognition in a letter dated Aug. 16.

As per Constantino, the recognition is given by the DOH through its Environmental Health and Safe Settings Division (EHSSD) to LGUs “that have exerted efforts and investments in improving their environmental health in terms of safe drinking water supply, sanitation, food safety, governance and health promotion so their constituents can live a healthier life.”

This is in line with the celebration of World Environmental Health Day by virtue of Proclamation 595-2018.

Constantino said the evaluation and validation were conducted last July 26-30, 2021 based on the Most Improved LGUs in Environmental Health Services (MILEHS) guidelines and Baguio City emerged as one of the top three winners.

For the feat, the city will receive a financial incentive amounting to P125,000 to be used by the Baguio City Health Services Office for its environmental health programs.

The mayor commended the CHSO led by City Health Officer Dr. Rowena Galpo for the efforts in ensuring the health of residents. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
