Baguio is second placer anew in Batang Pinoy
Baguio City settled for second place anew in the tightly contested 2025 Batang Pinoy National Youth Games with a 91 gold, 72 silver and 74 bronze medal haul behind Pasig City’s 95-72-87.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong congratulated the athletes, coaches, parents, officials, organizers and others who are instrumental to the city’s sterling performance in the national competition held in General Santos City.
“Please know that we are proud of all of you. Your showing is nothing short of amazing. Your grit, dedication and sportsmanship are palpable and commendable. Salute to all of you,” he said.
Baguio was a four-time overall champion in the sporting event until it was edged by Pasig last year.
It’s medal haul came from performances in combat sports and archery which was led by standout archer Chass Mhavien Colas, who secured four gold medals.
Davao City is third with 53 gold, 53 silver and 68 bronze medals.
Quezon City follows with 45-51-57, while the City of Manila is fifth with 43-37-32.
This year’s Batang Pinoy edition is said to be the largest in the event’s history with 188 local government units (LGUs) participating.
One innovation noted was the use of digital technology where all official results are now coursed through the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) website, replacing the printed results system used in previous years. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
