Baguio fire management plan sought

City officials recently requested the fire marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Baguio city to submit to the local legislative body the city’s fire management plan.

Under Resolution No. 291, series of 2023, local legislators stated that the development of a comprehensive fire management plan is crucial to ensure the safety and security of the citizens of the city as well as the protection of their properties and the environment.

The council pointed out that the local government recognizes the importance of proactive fire prevention and response strategies, preparedness and management in protecting the lives and properties of the residents.

Further, as a highly urbanized area, the body claimed that the city faces significant risks and challenges in fire prevention and management due to its population density, numerous commercial establishments, residential areas and unique topography.

The BFP – Baguio City is the government agency responsible for the prevention, suppression and investigation of fire incidents that transpire in the different parts of the city, thus, the need for the same to have its own comprehensive fire management plan to help deter the occurrence of fire incidents that pose a serious threat to life and limb.

The council stipulated that it acknowledges the expertise and experience of the BFP – Baguio city in the field of fire prevention and management that is why it is necessary for the said agency to be able to establish the required fire management plan for the reference of the local government, concerned government agencies and the residents. – Dexter A.
