Baguio female makes ‘herstory’

The city of Baguio congratulates Islay Erika Bomogao for being the first Filipino Female Muay Thai World Champion during the 2023 International Federations of Muay Thai Associations (IFMA) Senior World Championships at Bangkok, Thailand on 3 to 13 May 2023 and for winning a silver medal in the Women’s Wai Kru event of the 2023 World Combat Games held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 20 to 30 October 2023.  

Bomogao brought home gold in the 1st World Martial Arts Masterships in Incheon, South Korea in 2017 before ruling IFMA World Youth Muay Thai Championship in Thailand the following year. She also attained a silver medal in the 2019 East Asian Muay Thai Championships, two gold medals and one bronze medal in the 2021 IFMA World Muay Thai Championships. Bomogao was the Champion in the 45 kilos Combat Senior Division, a silver medalist in the Individual Waikru, and awarded as the Best Senior Female Nak Muay in the 2022 Philippine National Muay Thai Championships.
