A peaceful future for the youth

Youth for Peace (YFP) Baguio City Chapter, in partnership with the City Government of Baguio, and Civil Society Organizations held a successful Peace Convention that promotes unity and attain sustainable peace and community development in the city last 29 March 2023 at the Malcolm Square.

Representing Mayor Benjie Magalong Executive Assistant Samantha Hamada, highlighted in her speech the need to invest in our youth.

“We need to invest in our youth now more than ever because the future belongs to them and as public servants, we have to create a legacy to pass on to the next generation,” Hamada added.

Fifth Civil Military Operation Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Dominador Valerio, mentioned that this activity is being done to promote a culture of peace in the City and to maintain a peaceful place. Their organization has a Community Support Program that conducts Information, Education Campaign in schools and barangays on deceptive recruitment of the Communist-New People’s Army and stops their resource generation activities in the city.

“Naniniwala kami na ang kaalaman at edukasyon ng mga tao ang pinaka-solusyon sa problema natin sa communist insurgency para wala ng malinlang ang Communist- Terrorist Group at mapanatili ang kapayapaan sa Lungsod,” Valerio added.

An estimate of 2,000 individuals participated in the activities, which included a peace walk, a peace concert, and cultural performances from different organizations. – Alpha Patacsil
