24 runners join Baguio – Tinoc Highest Point 100K Ultramarathon scheduled

Slowfoot Runner Events Management marked its first ultramarathon on October 22, 2022 from Wright Park in Baguio City to Tinoc in Ifugao with 24 seasoned runners from different regions in the country.

Runners were sent off at 7AM and hurdled about 50 kilometers in nine hours at Sayangan, Atok for the first part. 

The 2nd part of the ultramarathon began in Atok and was joined by six more runners, among them were three senior citizens; Victor Ting, 78 years old from Caloocan (Grandmaster in Marathons in the country, Brigilio Balaba, 77 years old (Retired PNP Officer and Grandmaster of Triathlons in Baguio City), and Retired PNP Officer Wilfredo Quarte, 66 years old. 

At 8:44 PM, Romnick Teh from Baler Aurora reached the finish line at the Highest Point in Tinoc, Ifugao clocking 13H:44M:23S.   He was trailed by Maynard Encornal from Makati City while the third place was finished by Arnulfo Aquino from Pasig City and Joseph Mariano from Malolos, Bulacan, respectively. 

Meanwhile, first place in the female 100K category is Kimberly Gaela from Calasiao, Pangasinan finished in 17H:11M:00S; 2nd place went to Rozel Vivero from Pasay City arriving an hour later, and Dixie Sagusay from Imus, Cavite nailed the third spot.

First Place in the 50-kilometer male category from Sayangan to Tinoc is Wilfredo Quarte clocking 3H:35M:08S; flowed by Lawrence Cabrera from Apalit, Pampanga in the second place, and Eljee Jones Calimodag completed the roster at third place.  Rose Mamano from Pasay City is the sole participant in the 50-kilometer female category with similar time as Quarte’s.

Race Director Arnold Balaba said the group conducted the race in an aim to help boost tourism in the municipality of Tinoc, Ifugao. – JMPS
