12th General Assembly of the Local Historical Committees Network (LHCN) and 2025 National Conference on Local History and Heritage to be held in Guiuan, Eastern Samar

The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) convenes the annual gathering of the members and affiliates of the Local Historical Committees Network (LHCN) at Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Likewise, NHCP once again caps off the August History Month celebration with the National Conference on Local History and Heritage, which they hosted in Visayas from August 27 to 29.
Municipal Mayor Annaliza Gonzales-Kwan of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, is going to welcome the LHCN member-affiliates along with the NCLHH participants on August 27. The NHCP Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose Jr. would be giving a message prior to the keynote message by Philippine Senator Loren Legarda. The NHCP executive director, Carminda Arevalo, would call to order and report on the Local Historical Committees Network.
Meanwhile, Dr. Maria Serena Diokno, Southeast Asia Regional Exchange Program (SEASREP), will give a presentation about Project CLASP. In addition, several resolutions in support of the Dekada ng Kasaysayan ng Pilipinas with other matters like the 2025 History month theme, accreditation and renewal of LHCN member-affiliates, and technical assistance. The LHCN general assembly would be adjourned, and a closing remark would be given by NHCP deputy director Alvin Alcid.
The next day, the Eastern Samar State University would be hosting this year’s conference, featuring messages from the Guiuan local chief executive and Eastern Samar State University President Dr. Andres Pagatpatan Jr. Then, the NHCP executive director would provide an overview of the conference before the first keynote lecture, Prof. Ambeth Ocampo from Ateneo de Manila University.
Several sessions would take place on the first and second day of the conference, with topics such as youth in the development of the Philippines and Philippine historiography, youth engagement in public history, works on young heroes and historical figures, young people’s perspectives and reception of Philippine History, and Stories of mentorship in Philippine Historiography. Hon. Kinna Kwan of the Municipality of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, would also deliver a keynote lecture about “Youth in Civil Society: Heritage and Development.”
August is also designated as History month, apart from National Language month. More than 100 LHCN member-affiliates have been taking part in the general assembly and conference; the previous reiterations have been hosted by Cagayan de Oro, Cebu City, and Poblacion, Makati. ###
