SANTO DOMINGO, Ilocos Sur: The 10 MVA substation transformer to be leased by the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) from the Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative (ISECO) is now being transported to Mankayan, Benguet.

As of press time, the transformer just left Santo Domingo.

Engineers from the Benguet Electric Cooperative (BENECO) closely coordinated with personnel of the Ilocos Sur Electric Cooperative (ISECO) for the transport of the transformer.

The 10 MVA transformer from ISECO will temporarily replace the 3.75 MVA damaged transformer of BENECO’s substation at Bulalacao, Mankayan, Benguet while the cooperative looks for a new transformer.

The long period to acquire a new transformer compelled BENECO to look for a transformer to be leased in the meantime. The new transformer to be purchased must be customized to BENECO’s specifications and will have to undergo the tedious process of bidding.

Joaquin Calawen and Christopher Tait, BENECO engineers, are leading the BENECO contingent ferrying the leased transformer from ISECO to Mankayan via the Halsema highway.

The ISECO transformer’s oil has been drained and its cooling fins and bushing were detached in the meantime to ensure easier and safer transport along Nagulian Road up to Halsema highway.

Artemio Bacoco, acting general manager, is again appealing for the patience and understanding of the affected consumers in Mankayan and some parts of Buguias town who continue to have no light as of this writing.***LSI
