Session Road closed to vehicular traffic on March 14 for Sunday Market Showcase

BAGUIO CITY – (10 March 2021) – Both lanes of Session Road from Baguio Post Office down to Magsaysay Avenue will be closed to vehicular traffic from 7AM to 7PM on March 14 for a “Sunday Market Showcase” event.

With tourism activities now allowed in areas under General Community Quarantine and the easing up of travel restrictions, the city government of Baguio aims to stimulate economic activity by holding a display of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) products along the central business district’s main thoroughfare.

Restaurants along Session Road will also be allowed to offer al fresco or outdoor dining services during the event.

Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong issued Executive Order No.33, series of 2021 authorizing the temporary closure of both lanes of Session Road on March 14 for the Sunday Market Showcase activity.

MSMEs interested to join the event are encouraged to coordinate with the City Planning and Development Office at Tel. No. 442-6607 or the City Tourism Office at Tel. No. 446-2009.

The mayor explained that Session Road will be the perfect setting for the MSME product showcase considering accessibility, space and open air – ensuring adherence to minimum public health protocols.

Prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, the city government has been conducting Session Road closure to cater to MSMEs and other community events during Sundays.

Mayor Magalong said previous similar activities were warmly received by the MSME participants as well as residents and visitors.

“The success of this coming Sunday Market Showcase shall serve as a study of the activity’s sustainability in fostering entrepreneurship of our citizens while still implementing minimum public health standards,” Mayor Magalong said. – Jessa Samidan
