Mayor says city not only focused on Covid fight but also in recovery efforts

24 September 2021 – “As the local Chief Executive, we cannot simply focus on the Covid-19 management but have to be pro-active in thinking about the city’s recovery and reintegration to a new normal after the pandemic.”

Thus, declared Mayor Benjamin Magalong in a media forum, September 23, at City Hall before local journalists.

“We will recover by generating employment and making sure that our strategic programs and catalytic projects are already in place so that when the city transitions to the new normal, it will hit the ground running,” he said.

He mentioned  the planned intermodal transportation terminal, sewerage system, market development, convergence center, National Data Center, abattoir, cold storage facility and Burnham Park development, as among these projects.

The Mayor said he met with TESDA regional officials regarding the possible hiring of its graduates whose skills are going to be needed for the projects.

“The city needs to recover fast and build back better.  This requires strong leadership and someone not thinking of the next election or getting re-elected,” the Mayor said.

He added that the city government should also be run efficiently like a corporation.

The city government expects better coordination in the implementation of infrastructure projects this year to fulfill Mayor Benjamin Magalong’s thrust to deliver only quality output to the public. Earlier, the Mayor met with Rep. Mark Go and DPWH-Baguio City District Engineering Office District Engr. Rene Zarate to ensure better coordination in the implementation of infrastructure projects in the city to fulfil his thrust to deliver only quality output to the public. – Gaby B. Keith
