Ganza, Melvin Jones open for parking proponents

The local government will be opening the Ganza pay parking area and Melvin Jones football field for pay parking proponents to help address the lack of available parking spaces in the city.
Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong directed the city’s Local Finance Committee chaired by City Budget officer Leticia O. Clemente to update the previous feasibility study for the proposed multi-storey pay parking building at the Ganza area, formerly the site of the Jadewell Parking systems Corporation pay parking operations.
Further, the committee will make the appropriate recommendations on how the local government will implement the proposed put up of a multi-storey pay parking structure that will serve as one of the city’s quick wins in addressing the parking problems it is currently experiencing.
The mayor also advised the committee to look into the proposal to elevate the Melvin Jones football field, convert it to an international standard sports facility and use the underground as a pay parking area as part of the city’s plan to address the parking problems of motorists in the city’s central business district area.
The committee was also tasked by the local chief executive to study what scheme will the local government adopt in the implementation of the proposal, either through unsolicited proposal where the city will not spend any single centavo of its roll out or through solicited proposal with the city at the helm of the said project.
Magalong informed the committee that the Ganza parking structure will be using the so-called steel parking structure to be able to lessen the cost of the project, provided that, the preparation of the plans should be done in consultation with reputable steel companies so that the design of the proposed structure will conform with prevailing industry standards.
Several proposals from various companies relative to the put up of a multistorey parking structure at the Ganza area had been submitted to the local government in the past but said proposals did not push through because of the onslaught of the COVID-19 pandemic that stopped almost all activities of the people in the different parts of the world. – Dexter A.
