Establishments asked to comply with fire exit requirement

Mayor Benjamin Magalong reminded business establishments including hotels and boarding houses in the city to make sure that their fire exit routes are in place, accessible, unlocked and unobstructed at all times.

“Please make sure that all safeguards used to protect your clients, boarders and employees during an emergency are maintained and in good working order,” the mayor said.

The call was made as the city welcomed thousands of students back to its fold after more than two years of settling for virtual classes due to the pandemic.

Every week, the city also hosts thousands of tourists who avail of the different accommodation facilities.

Recently, a tourist who stayed in a hotel called the city’s attention on an obstructed fire exit of the place.

The complaint was immediately acted on by the City Permits and Licensing Division, the City Buildings and Architecture Office and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

The owner of the establishment promptly cooperated and instituted the needed corrective measures. – Aileen P. Refuerzo
