Council increases honorarium of Senior Citizen volunteers

BAGUIO CITY – Qualified Baguio senior citizens rendering volunteer services at the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) will now receive an honorarium in the amount of P40.00 per hour commensurate to their rendered services following the approval of an ordinance.

Councilor Betty Lourdes Tabanda, main author of the ordinance, said the increase of the honorarium of senior citizen OSCA volunteers is necessary to keep up with the demand of the present times.

Funding for the provision of the said cash benefit willl be included in the regular budget of the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO).

The ordinance was forwarded to the Office of Mayor Benjamin Magalong for approval.

The grant of the said honorarium stemmed from Ordinance number 53, approved in 1995, which provided for cash benefits amounting to P20.00 per hour as honorarium to qualified senior citizens commensurate to their volunteer services rendered at the OSCA pursuant to Republic Act 7342 (An Act to maximize the contributions of the senior citizens to nation-building, grant benefits, and special privileges and for purposes) as amended.

In 2011, the said ordinance was again amended to increase the said cash benefits to P30.00. -Jordan G. Habbiling
