City recognizes contributions of teachers

22 September 2021 – The City Council, during last Monday’s regular session, recognized the commendable efforts, sterling services and impactful contributions of teachers and educators in the city in time for the celebration of the National Teachers Month this September.

In a resolution, local legislators stated that celebrating National Teachers’ Month every September is an expression of profound gratitude to all teachers and educators both from the public or private learning institutions, especially this time of health crisis where one of the most affected sectors is education.

Further, the council added that the aforesaid celebration elevates the level of awareness and support on the value of their imperative role in honing the future of the youth through the sheer power of potent education.

The body claimed that appreciating their relentless efforts and unconditional sacrifices means providing them dose of daily motivation which will surely further inspire them to keep going and empowering their learners while ensuring that education is one aspect that people shall not and never set aside to deliver even during this time of pandemic.

The State recognizes the indispensable role of teachers and educators in passionately empowering their learners and in shaping the future of the country by appropriately honing the youth to become responsible and dedicated citizens of the nation.

Earlier, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has designated every 5th day of October as World Teachers Day which is a very important day to celebrate the very essential role that teachers play in guiding the children, youth, adults and all learners through the lifelong learning process.

Subsequently, Presidential Proclamation No. 242, series of 2011 declared the period from September 5 to October 5 of every year as National Teachers Month which intends to highlight the very important role that teachers and educators vitally play in the community.

The celebration of this year’s National Teachers Month evolves on the theme “My Teacher, My Frontline Hero’ to quote the highly essential role that teachers and educators play in delivering quality-driven education services amidst the ongoing global crisis triggered by the dreaded Corona Virus Disease (COVID) 2019 and its variants.

According to the council, Baguio City is known to be the center of education in the north and that the title does not only pertain to the rapidly increasing number of learners and students coming from different places, but on the quality of education through the highly competent teachers and committed educators wanting to contribute in the overall efforts to develop the youth in becoming responsible and dedicated citizens of the country.

Moreover, The council also emphasized that teachers and educators deserve to be recognized for being able to adjust to the difficult situation in the implementation of blended learning just to be able to sustain the uninterrupted delivery of quality education that will sustain the growth and development of the learners even amidst the ongoing restrictions caused by the ongoing pandemic that heavily impacted all countries of the world for over one year and  a half of having to go through the various levels of community quarantine just to contain the rapid spread of the deadly virus among the populace, including the learners in the different ladders of education. – Dexter A.
