Claire Jaun-Torres: Weaving Heritage and Elegance in Abstract Expressionism
Of well-blended Swiss Filipino lineage, Claire Jaun-Torres is an abstract expressionist artist presently based in Baguio City. She is a pure Ilocana with roots from Sta. Maria and Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, who proudly made her life in the Philippines and Switzerland as an inspiration for her artworks.
She is an exemplary woman who pursues her passion to express herself through art. Each of her brushstrokes tells a story – a woman’s awakening, a woman’s love whose experiences anyone can relate to, the diverse cultures she grew up with and immersed in, and the elegance that embodies her personality.
Claire, who married Swiss Heinz Jaun, a civil engineer who owned a construction company, first settled in Switzerland, where they started a family, raising two talented daughters – Jacqueline, now a Human Rights lawyer and specialist in construction law; and Marissa, a graduate of master’s in business administration.
In 2019, the Jaun couple decided to live in Baguio City, Philippines, a UNESCO-designated Creative City for Crafts and Folk Arts, which provided a vibrant landscape and perfect milieu for Claire, whose artistic bearings is now forging fresh frontiers of exploration.
All through her journey into abstract paintings – something that she put on the back burner while doing her wifely and motherly duties – she gained further family encouragement, especially from her daughters, whose constant words raised her up, egging her to follow her passion, get past known boundaries, and venture more beyond the lines.
Having lived and travelled across Europe and Asia, Claire draws inspiration as an abstract artist from her diverse surroundings. Her artworks reflect the influence of different cultures and landscapes, offering glimpses into her encounters and adventures. Each piece is a unique reflection of her experiences, resonating with viewers on a deeply personal level and cultivating a sense of connection and understanding.
In essence, Claire is more than just an artist; she is a storyteller, using her canvas as a medium to share her narrative with the world. Her art speaks volumes about her journey, her heritage, and her boundless creativity. As she continues to evolve as an artist, Claire remains committed to inspiring others through her vibrant and creative work. #
