Officials of Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) informed the Baguio City Council during the regular session on May 24 that the online registration for the national identification system is in progress.
However, they added that a request to resume the door-to-door collection of demographic information of residents in the region has been lodged to the central office so as to continue assisting those who have no means to register online.
The city council in a resolution supported the appeal of the PSA-CAR for the extension of the door-to-door pre-registration process.
The collection of demographic information of registrants is the first step in the registration process which can be done either manually by the registrant through a website or through a door-to-door survey conducted by a PSA enumerator.
According to PSA-CAR Regional Director Villafe Allibuyog, 12 barangays have been assisted for the door-to-door pre-registration. These were Irisan, Bakakeng Central, Loakan Proper, Pinget, Sto. Rosario Valley, Crescencia Village, Asin Road, Camp 7, Kias, Dontogan, Fairview Village, and Mines View Park.
Allibuyog reported that 92,302 residents in those barangays have been assisted for the Step 1 registration from January to April 2021. The actual number of registrants has far exceeded their target number which was 51,600, she added.
Step 2 of the registration process involves capturing of biometric information such as fingerprints, iris scan, and a front-facing photograph and validation of supporting documents at the registration center.
After the completion of steps 1 and 2, the Philippine ID (PhilID) will be delivered to the address of the registrant for free.
Allibuyog underscored that the Philippine Identification System as provided for by Republic Act No. 11055 aims to simplify transactions with the public and private sector and streamline the access and application of the Filipino citizens for social welfare and benefits from the government.
She further stressed that obtaining a national identification card is voluntary.
